JX  is partnering with the Wisconsin Adopt-A-Highway program. The company has been assigned the stretch of road on Highway 83 from Perkins Road to US Highway 18. This location is minutes from their corporate headquarters and less than 10 miles from the company’s first Peterbilt dealership.

Roadside litter costs the State of Wisconsin millions of dollars annually to control. Through the Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program, volunteers are able to help the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) maintenance forces keep state roadsides clean and beautiful by picking up litter along state highways.

“In addition to the beautification benefits of roadside litter removal, the program is a great way for an organization to give back to their community,” said JX President & CEO, Eric Jorgensen. “It’s something that brings people outside, working together, and sharing in the results—a cleaner, more beautiful roadside.”

“Along with helping keep roadsides clean and green, Wisconsin’s dedicated Adopt-A-Highway volunteers make the state an even more attractive destination for travelers while saving taxpayer dollars,” commented Rose Phetteplace, Director of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) Bureau of Highway Maintenance.

According to Christa Wollenzien, program coordinator for the WisDOT, “In 2013, Adopt-A-Highway volunteers cleaned over 8,220 miles of roadway collecting 18,000 bags of trash and 1,400 bags of recyclables — weighing in at about 190 tons.”

JX hopes to expand the company’s participation in the Adopt-A-Highway program by encouraging other JX business units to do the same in their respective communities.
